What makes Roxbury Great?
Roxbury, Massachusetts is 375 years young. It’s vibrant, dynamic, eclectic, multilayered, and multi-faceted. We have our own restaurants, stores, theaters, parks, playgrounds, schools, churches, mosques, landmarks, art, music, style, and best of all, people. We have a unique, complex culture that has influenced the United States since before the states even united.
The Roxbury Cultural Network knows this well. That’s why we, a coalition of Roxbury non-profit organizations, came together in 2004, to work together, to preserve and promote the neighborhood we love. We highlight the cultural, the historical, the artistic, the culinary; and now, we need to hear from you, the people connected to Roxbury: What makes Roxbury great?
If you’ve ever lived in Roxbury, ever worked in Roxbury, ever been to Roxbury, tell us what about our neighborhood means the most to you. There are no limitations, and no rules; The Roxbury Cultural Network just wants to hear from you.
So let your voice be heard, and tell us what it is that you think makes Roxbury great!

I've lived in 6 places in Boston, and I loved living in the 'Bury best of all. It's close to EVERYTHING. When I had to move from there, I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere! When it came time for me to buy my house, I never wanted to live anywhere else. And now I'm back! I'm glad my hubby told me about this. Roxbury is my town!
Roxbury is full of surprsise--half hidden streets with beautiful houses in various architectural styles, restaurants and "hole in the wall" eateries with really good food, and no shortage of people happy to say "hello" to you no matter who you are.

Roxbury is full of surprises--half hidden streets with houses of great interest, restaurants and "hole in the wall" eateries with terrific food, and lots of folk happy to say "hello" to you.
Roxbury is an architectural jewel.
Great place to live, impressive architecture, tree lined streets, parks and caring people.
Horatio Harris Park with its wonderful outcroppings of puddingstone-no place else in Boston is there such a place.
Roxbury is a wonderful residential community with impressive architecture, tree lined streets, and a rich diverse history. The residents care deeply about their community
I moved from Idaho two years ago to work in Roxbury. It reminded me of Germantown, Philadelphia where I grew up. Bricklined sidewalks, historic landmarks, great architecture, friendly people, open spaces, parks. I found people at T stops and on buses extremely helpful in navigating the MBTA and the city. People seemed surprised when I deemed Boston a friendly city.
I love Roxbury's history and the signs of the past that are everywhere if you look--from the Shirley Eustis house to the United House of Prayer(formerly Mishkan Tefila) to the Cochituate Standpipe. If you stand sill and listen you can hear so many different voices from the past.
I love the puddingstone and the hills and the views of Boston. I love the food at Merengue and United House of Prayer. People have fought and struggled to make Roxbury a place thats good for people to live, work and go to school. I love that so many people love Roxbury.
If you play ball, there's nowhere better in the city. Washington Park is where the real ballers go. 02119 stand up!
I get an Ideal sub once a week. If I ever move away, I have to get them shipped to me. I have a problem.
